The aim of the project was to understand, optimise, design, conduct Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and produce engineering drawings of front and rear Uprights and A-arms using Solidworks CAD and ANSYS 17.2 & 18.2 for the Team Swinburne 2017 (TS-17) Formula SAE racing car.
Responsibilities & Achievements
Designed & optimised Uprights and A-arms on Solidworks CAD software by conducting FEA on ANSYS and reduced 10% weight compared to TS-16.
Successfully recruited two sponsors – Accurate CNC & Tyre Power worth $3,000
Selected Deep Groove Ball Bearing instead of Angular Contact Ball Bearing after analysis as they were 5 times less expensive, readily available and didn’t compromise performance.
Prepared 2D engineering drawings of front and rear Uprights and A-arms with all specifications, including tolerances, for manufacturing.
